Laura Daley and Jennifer Becton have absolutely nailed the topic of fear from a scientific perspective and given me real techniques for managing it in the saddle and around my horse Charlie. This book gave me hope.

As a teacher and trainer, you have helped me to see my students in a new and hopefully, a more empowering way.
I have a couple of students who are working through issues of fear and I had to smile as I saw myself in your Teachers section as you wrote about trying to help them through increased control of the horse as opposed to working with their emotions.
I have also had fear issues in the past and have had to work hard to overcome.
Thank you, Laura, for all that you do to empower others and to help them enjoy every moment with their equine partners!

I am not a fearful rider, but Riding Fear Free has helped me become a better rider—and parent, and teacher, and person! I lack confidence in my riding ability and am always second-guessing myself, always wondering, “Did I give the right cue? Is my horse not responding because of something I did or didn’t do? Am I doing this right?” Riding Fear Free gave me steps to take that built my confidence and riding ability. The progressive, small steps the book encourages as well as the techniques such as journaling and short rides have made good horsemanship an attainable goal.
But what makes this book unique is its dual perspective for the trainer and the student. It gave me insight into how to deal with my students, kids, and people in general. In order to promote growth in a rider, student, child, or even yourself, the operations of the mind must be understood. And Riding Fear Free does that. It explores how the mind works and how it overcomes fears or negative experiences through small, repetitive positive experiences. The concepts can be applied to many areas in life beyond the barn.
Laura Daley has an uncanny insight into the psyche of humans and horses and how the two relate to each other, and Jennifer Becton helps take those insights and creates an easy-to-read manual that provides insight in a logical, straightforward manner. Riding Fear Free will be an asset to any rider or riding instructor’s library.
